Technique
Dual-ingredient muddling to combine lemon oils with herb aromatics.
Tutorial
- Place 2 lemon wedges and 4-5 mint leaves in a shaker
- Add ½ oz simple syrup
- Using a muddler, press down with moderate pressure
- The goal is to extract lemon juice and oils while releasing mint aromatics
- Apply more pressure to the lemon than to the mint leaves
- Continue until the lemon wedges have released most of their juice
- Add 2 oz bourbon whiskey and ice
- Shake vigorously for 15 seconds
- Strain into a rocks glass filled with crushed ice
- Garnish with a mint sprig
