Shaken Daiquiri

Technique

Shaking is essential for cocktails containing citrus juices, as it properly integrates these ingredients with spirits while creating texture and aeration.

Tutorial

  1. Add 2 oz white rum, ¾ oz fresh lime juice, and ¾ oz simple syrup to a cocktail shaker
  2. Fill the shaker ¾ full with fresh, hard ice cubes (not crushed ice)
  3. Secure the top of the shaker firmly
  4. Hold the shaker with both hands—one on the bottom, one on the top—and shake vigorously from shoulder height
  5. Shake for 12-15 seconds until the outside of the shaker becomes frosty
  6. The sound of the ice will change from a loud rattle to a more muffled sound when properly diluted
  7. Double-strain through a Hawthorne strainer and fine mesh strainer into a chilled coupe glass
