Mulled Wine

Ingredients

  • 1 bottle (750ml) red wine (Merlot or Cabernet Sauvignon)
  • 1 orange, sliced into rounds
  • ¼ cup brandy (optional)
  • ¼ cup honey or sugar
  • 8 whole cloves
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • 2 star anise pods
  • 1 tsp whole allspice berries
  • Orange slices and cinnamon sticks for garnish

Instructions

  1. Add wine, sliced orange, brandy, and honey to a large saucepan
  2. Add all the spices
  3. Heat over medium-low heat until warm (do not boil)
  4. Reduce heat to low and simmer for 15-20 minutes
  5. Strain and serve in heatproof mugs or glasses
  6. Garnish with fresh orange slices and cinnamon sticks
